National Honor Society, cross-country, outdoor track, Future Business Leaders of America – the list of activities and accomplishments goes on and on for Tourtellotte Memorial High School’s Class of 2010 salutatorian, Rebecca Witkowski, 17. Not only an active athlete for all of her high school career, the new graduate was captain of her cross-country and outdoor track teams in senior year, and president of the FBLA this year, as well. Witkowski has also been a member of the school’s Plastics Team for the last two years and, while maintaining a commendable GPA, has worked at Stop and Shop since 2008.

Witkowski, a North Grosvenordale resident, will be attending UConn this fall, where she plans to study biology, a precursor to medical school. “I’ve always liked helping people,” Witkowski said, earnestly. The salutatorian hopes to one day work in oncology, perhaps even in pediatrics.

Witkowski said she hoped that by leaving home for college, she would “grow up” as she takes advantage of the learning experiences available to her. “We’re gonna be adults now,” she said. Still, she may be visiting home frequently, as she confessed, “I don’t know how to do laundry.”
