Second to none - Putnam High School salutatorian heads to PA

Voted most likely to succeed and nominated “biggest eater” by her classmates, Putnam High School’s Class of 2010 Salutatorian, 18-year-old Gabrielle Robinson, may not look like she eats much of the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream she’s so fond of, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in character.

The NHS member who maintains a black belt in karate from her younger years, served as captain of the school’s volleyball team this year, after playing since ninth-grade, kept up with the track team, was active as a teen leader at High Point Church in Thompson and is proud of her job at the local Stop and Shop, though she began earning a pay- check delivering Reminder newspapers many years ago with her family.

Robinson will be attending Messiah College, where she plans to study accounting. While just over five hours from home, Messiah was one of only two schools the salutatorian chose and she hopes she will gain independence there. “I think it will be good,” she said, “to figure out stuff on my own.”

The successful student credits her parents for her ability to conquer stress, “We can talk about anything…as long as you give it your all, that’s all that matters,” she said.
