East Hartford housing rehabilitation program grants available

East Hartford - posted Mar, 16 2011

The Town of East Hartford Grants Administration Office is now accepting applications for its Housing Rehabilitation Program to replace furnaces and/or roofs at a limited number of homes. It is anticipated that approximately 20 projects will be undertaken with available funds.
The program will provide loan funds to assist with furnace and/or roof replacement for low and moderate income property owners. Residences must be owner-occupied and have no more than four units. Applicants must not have received rehabilitation assistance from the town during the previous five years. If applying for a furnace, owners must provide a service report from a licensed heating contractor from the previous year.
The Housing Rehabilitation Program is a 0 percent interest loan program made possible by the Federal Community Development Block Grant. Loans are payable upon sale or transfer of property. Properties must be maintained in accordance with local building and property maintenance codes.
The Grants Administration Office will mail applications for the program to interested applicants and will process completed applications on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funding is available. Selected property owners must be current with their payment of Town of East Hartford taxes and have a maximum of two liens on their property. Applications will be accepted until May 2.
To request an application, or additional information about the program, interested property owners should contact Clare Fravel, Housing Planning Analyst at 860-291-7306.
