The East Hartford Summer Youth Festival will present the musical “The Wiz” on the last weekend in July.
“The Wiz” sets Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul music. With music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, musical numbers include "Home," "Before Yesterday," "Ease on Down the Road," "Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News," "If You Believe," and more.
This year, the Summer Youth Festival has expanded its auditions to include a variety of days and times:
May 7 at 4 p.m.; May 11 at 6:30 p.m.; May 16 at 6:30 p.m.; May 17 at 6:30 p.m.; and May 22 at 1 p.m. Callbacks will be held on May 25 at 6:30 p.m.
All will be held in room 11 of the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford. Have a song prepared (an accompanist will be available - bring your sheet music) and be prepared to read from a script. Rehearsals start the week of June 20 at the East Hartford Middle School, 777 Burnside Ave. If you audition and do not get a part, or do not want to audition, then you can still join and be a part of the cast or crew.
