Children's Butterfly Garden

Manchester - posted Apr, 29 2011

Northwest Park in Manchester invites children of all ages, from one to 101, to attend the planting of the Butterfly Garden on May 21 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The park is located off Tolland Turnpike in Manchester, near Bob’s Discount Furniture.
The garden was dedicated in June of 2003 and has received state awards from the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, as well as a national award in 2007 from National Garden Clubs, Inc. Contributions from Manchester Garden Club and Perennial Planters Garden Club of Manchester, as well as donations from members of our community, will support the planting of this amazing garden each year.
This magical garden is a place where children of all ages can experience the joys of gardening, use their imaginations as they meander through the garden and enjoy the company of butterflies as they visit the garden throughout the growing season.
On May 21, an adult must accompany any children under the age of 16. Members of the Manchester Garden Club, who will guide and assist the students, siblings and their parents with the planting of the garden, will also attend.
In addition, on June 4, return to add mulch to the garden from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
In case of a total downpour of rain on either date, the alternative planting dates will be May 22 and June 5. Bring gloves, buckets and garden tools if you have them. There will also be some available at the garden.
Many hands make light work for all. For more information, and in order to be sure of enough volunteers, R.S.V.P. to Joan at 860-643-5252.
