Storm debris removal
Ellington - posted Nov, 08 2011
The Town Brush facility is open every day and will continue to be to allow residents the ability to dispose of their brush and tree damage from the storm. There is no charge for the disposal of the material. Residents residing along state roads, Routes 140, 83 and 286 will have their brush collected by the state. The Town of Ellington’s DPW will be picking brush from storm Alfred [curbside] on town roads. Material should be 4- to 6-feet in length with the butt end of the branch facing the street. Collection of the material began last Tuesday in the Five-Corners’ area and will continue north through the community. DPW has three crews collecting the material, and due to the large amount, this will take some time. Roads where brush has already been collected are those off of Wappingwood and Windsorville Roads. When the DPW crews finish going through the town once, they will be returning to collect brush from those households who did not get a chance to place their brush/debris by the road the first time around. The current expectation to complete this task is approximately eight weeks. The town will be seeking support from the state, National Guard, the State Debris Removal contractor and the State Department of Transportation.
