Records to be purged

SALEM- In accordance with Section 7-109 of the Connecticut General Statutes, Salem Public Schools will be destroying inactive special education records which are no longer needed by the school and which have been held for the length of time required by applicable regulations and schedules for the Connecticut State Library and the Connecticut Public Records Asdministrator. The files scheduled to be destroyed as of June 1, 2012, include all inactive special education records of students with a date of birth of 1988 or before. Also to bedestryed are inactive special education records of students who have graduated from high school or who have moved from the district six or more years ago. Keep in mind, that a copy of a special education file may be needed by a former student now or in the future for Social Security benefits or other purposes. You may obtain a copy of your file before destruction by conducting Cathy Wayne, Administrative Assistant, at 860-859-3988 before June 1. 2012.
