Day on the hill

KILLINGLY- On Wednesday, March 14, students from Killingly High School attended the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education’s (CABE) annual “Day on the Hill” event in which they along with principals, superintendents, school board members and other students from across the state convened to voice their opinions and meet with legislators regarding education in Connecticut. The day began with a briefing of issues at The Bushnell’s Autorino Great Hall, including pending legislation and its effect on local schools districts, with CABE and the legislative leadership. Remarks were made by Governor Malloy, Comptroller Kevin Lembo, Senator Andrea Stillman, Representative Andy Fleishmann and Representative Larry Cafero. Students, principals, superintendents, school board members and other attendees then walked “to the Hill” to visit one-on-one with their legislators at the State Capitol Building. Representing Killingly Public Schools were Killingly Board of Education Member and CABE First Vice President Richard Murray and Killingly Board of Education Member Alexis Rich as well as Killingly High School students Emily Klawitter, Brittany Bertorelli, Samantha Tickey and Jashua Hayes. Other districts represented with students at the event include; Branford, East Windsor, Hartford, Granby, Plainville, Union, New Britain, Simsbury, Stratford and Waterbury.
