COLCHESTER- Team 1699, the Bacon Academy Robocats, recently competed at the FIRST Robotics regional competition in Richmond Virginia. The Bacon Academy team placed third overall after entering the second day as the 5th seed out of 60 teams. The Bacon Academy robot, designed and built by the students, performed flawlessly in 17 matches overall. In addition to the success on the field, the Robocats were recognized with the Underwriters Laboratory Safety Award for practicing and promoting a safety culture while working on and competing with this complex machinery. The Bacon Academy robot received many compliments from the event judges for its “efficient and most maneuverable design.” A video clip of one of the matches can be viewed at: The FIRST Robotics Competition stages yearly themed challenges played by robots at competitions across the country. The robots are designed and built in six weeks by teams of high-school-aged individuals. This year the Robocats are comprised of 24 Bacon Academy students.
