School supply donations needed

The East Hartford Social Services Department is seeking donations of new school supplies to assist local students. These supplies will be distributed by the department’s staff to pre-identified students entering grades K-12 in the fall, whose families are experiencing hard times. Especially needed supplies include: solid colored, unisex backpacks; folders; 3-ring binders; markers; crayons; scissors; rulers and erasers. All types of new school supplies are needed. Donations may be dropped off at the social services department on the lower level of Town Hall, 740 Main St., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and until 6 p.m on the first and third Thursday of the month. Monetary donations will also be welcome and used to purchase needed “filler” items. Checks should be made payable to: Special Program. All donations are needed by Aug. 3.
