Collecting school supplies

COLCHESTER- It’s that time of the year again to start thinking about sending children back to school. Each year, Colchester Youth & Social Services hosts a back-to-school program called “New Beginnings” which provides students back to school supplies, backpacks and clothing. Part of having a successful school year starts with ensuring that every child in Colchester feels confident and prepared by having the correct school supplies and clothes necessary to begin their year. In response to requests from parents, the Colchester School District has streamlined the supply lists to simplify the process and reduce costs for families. If you are interested in donating to this program, they are currently collecting: Backpacks (for middle and high school students), 3- and 5-subject notebooks, 1 inch and 1 ½ inch binders, flash drives, loose leaf paper, dividers, book covers, pencils, pens, pencil pouches, calculators, index cards, highlighter and folders. They also gladly accept gift cards for back to school clothing and supplies. All donations can be brought to Youth & Social Services at the Colchester Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For any questions regarding this program please feel free to call 860-537-7235.
