Fellowships for writers

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center announces that applications are available online for writers fellowship program for low-income writers living in the 29-town Greater Hartford area to attend the retreat center in Litchfield. The Wisdom House Writers Fellowship Program, funded by a grant from the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, was initiated to encourage the work of writers in the 29-town region. Those receiving the fellowships will stay at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center, 229 East Litchfield Road, Litchfield. The fellowships cover accommodations and meals. Applications are available online at www.wisdomhouse.org or by calling 860-567-3163. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. Writers do not have to have been published to apply. The application, besides seeking financial information, requests writing samples and references with knowledge of the applicant’s writing potential. Wisdom House is an interfaith retreat and conference center, presenting programs in spirituality, education and the arts. The center specializes in hospitality to the nonprofit community and is a sponsored ministry of the Daughters of Wisdom, a Roman Catholic religious order. The center spans 70 acres of meadows, woods and brooks and includes several buildings - the oldest dates to 1770.
