ENFIELD- Exactly a year after 9/11, Asnuntuck held its first Candlelight Vigil for Peace on Sept. 11, 2002. The vigil was followed by a Poetry for Peace Coffee House with Asnuntuck faculty, staff, and students reading poems on the theme of peace, and harp music by Polly Parker. Since 2002, Asnuntuck has held a Candlelight Vigil and a Poetry for Peace Coffee House in September, commemorating 9/11. This year, on Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Candlelight Vigil will be held from 6:30-7 p.m. outside the front entrance of the college, where participants are offered the chance to stand in silence for peace, the safe return of our troops from Afghanistan, and worldwide healing of those who have suffered and continue to suffer from the horrors of war. At 7:00 pm, the Poetry for Peace reading will begin in the Coffee House in Café II, with music by Asnuntuck student Mitch Kellogg, as well as readings of poetry about peace by Asnuntuck faculty, staff, and students. The formal reading section of the evening will be followed by an open mic, so that others may share their poems and music about peace, as part of our collective healing and hope for a peaceful world.
