Apple Harvest Festival, 5K

The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce will present the 38th Annual Apple Harvest Festival on Oct. 13 and 14 at Welles Street Riverfront Park. The festival, which will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, rain or shine, will feature amusement rides, craft and exhibitor booths, food vendors, a family entertainment area, as well as live musical entertainment. The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce will also hold the Festival 5K road races on Oct. 14 at Riverfront Park, Welles Street, Glastonbury. The 5K (3.1 miles) road race/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. from the ball field at the park. Runners will proceed down by the festival fairgrounds behind the community center and turn right onto Glastonbury Boulevard. The route will continue onto Main Street to Pratt Street and will loop around back to the park. A $25 online registration will be open until Oct. 11; day of registration is $30. Official 2012 Apple Harvest Festival t-shirts will be provided to the first 150 5K registrants. Registered runners may pick up their bibs and race tee at the Pie Booth at the entrance of the Apple Harvest Festival on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 1K Youth Race will also take place at 10:30 a.m. following the 5K. This race is open to youth age 13 and under. The 1K (.62 mile) will loop around the fields at Riverfront Park. The entry fee for the 1K is $5 cash on the day of the race. There is no pre-registration. All times for the 5K and 1K will be monitored and recorded by Last Mile, with official times posted shortly after the race. Split times for the 5K race will be available at the first and second mile mark on the course. Runners of both races will be entered into categories based on their age the day of the race. The Kidz Fun Run will begin immediately following the 5K at approximately 9:35 a.m. Youngsters that simply want to have some fun are encourage to enter this short event that will go around the perimeter of a few fields. There is no fee to enter the Kidz Fun Run. All participants will receive a special goodie bag. An awards ceremony for all race winners will be held at approximately 10:45 a.m.
