Bus company offers free field trips
Windsor - posted Dec, 07 2012
Rainbow Bus Lines’ President Sterling Viets is giving bus trips away. Viets, who has been involved with Windsor Historical Society as treasurer, head of the buildings committee and board member on and off since the 1980s feels that history is one of the best ways to connect schoolchildren with the community they live in. At the Society’s recent November auction, 27 buses were sponsored with 27 more given by Rainbow Bus Lines. The Society’s Curator of Collections and Interpretation Christina Vida and her education volunteers present programs aligned with Connecticut State Social Studies Standards appropriate for grades pre-K through 12. Teachers can choose from programs about Native Americans, Colonial Life, the American Revolution and more. For additional information about the programs, contact Christina Vida at 860-688-3813, ext. 104, or cvida@windsorhistoricalsociety.org. While some of the free buses are reserved for Windsor students, trips are available to school audiences in the greater Hartford area on a first-come, first-served basis.
