WILLIMANTIC- EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater Arts Academy (CTAA) has opened its spring semester registration for theater, dance, creative writing, visual arts, musical theater and private music lessons. CTAA’s annual Open House on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, from 5 pm. to 8 p.m., invites parents and their children to learn more about CTAA’s community arts education programming and to register for classes. Spring semester classes begin on Tues., Jan. 22, 2013. CTAA serves children, ages 3 to 18, from northeastern Connecticut. All CTAA programs take place at EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater, 896 Main St., Willimantic. Classes, which are offered in both spring and fall sessions, are taught by some of Connecticut's finest arts professionals. CTAA also offers a popular summer musical theater program. During CTAA’s Jan. 15 Open House, which is open to the public, parents may not only register their children for classes, but also tour the Art Deco-era Capitol Theater, meet staff, watch presentations, participate in free workshops and exchange students’ old dancing shoes. Over the years, CTAA has built up a collection of gently used jazz, tap and ballet shoes. Parents of registered CTAA students are invited to bring their children’s slightly used dance shoes and exchange them for a different size.
