Mentors needed
East Hartford - posted Jan, 11 2013
January is National Mentoring Month, and the East Hartford Business Partnership recently received $2,500 from Bank of America to support the East Hartford mentoring program and others designed to provide exposure to career and higher education opportunities for area students. The East Hartford mentoring program recruits, trains, and places volunteer mentors with students in need of positive role models. The school-based program serves elementary, middle, and high school students across the district. Lasting the entire school year, it is designed to give students structured, ongoing relationships with adult mentors that spur exploration of education and workforce opportunities. In addition to the mentoring program, funds from the bank will also be used to support the Academy of Finance at East Hartford High School and Career Day at East Hartford Middle School. Currently, the program is in urgent need of mentors for students in grades three through eight. If you are interested in volunteering, call Penny Brice, school/business community coordinator, at 860-622-5976.
