Girl Scouts throughout Connecticut are gearing up for the start of Girl Scout cookie season that began on Jan. 5. The proceeds from Girl Scouts of Connecticut's cookie program stay in Connecticut and directly benefit all of the Girl Scouts in Connecticut, including the troop or group from which the cookies were purchased. The popular Cookies for Heroes program is back. Last year, more than 125,000 boxes were sent to service men and women. and this year's goal is even higher. The program allows customers to purchase Girl Scout cookies from their local Girl Scout, and Girl Scouts of Connecticut, along with community partners, will ship the cookies to service men and women overseas and at home. Cookie fans who don't know a Girl Scout can log onto www.gsoct.org and click on the cookie to connect with Girl Scouts participating in the cookie program in their town.
