DANIELSON- – Improving parent-child relationships, raising positive kids in a negative world, and developing your child’s full potential are the focus of a class being offered at the Danielson Church of the Nazarene, located at 440 Westcott Road. The 10-week course will use STEP curriculum (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) developed by the American Guidance Society, as well as a study by Chip Ingram entitled: Effective Parenting in a Defective World, which promotes Biblical Principles for parenting. STEP offers parents, grandparents, care-takers, and children’s workers a realistic and practical approach to meeting the challenges of raising, nurturing, and investing in children today. Session topics include: Understanding Yourself and Your Child, Understanding feelings and beliefs, the use of Encouragement, Listening and Talking to Your Child, Helping Children Learn Cooperation, Positive Discipline that Makes Sense, and Building the Relational Bond. The class will be facilitated by Rev. Wendy Ambrefe, mother of three young adult children, and foster parent. Rev. Ambrefe has served as one of the facilitators of the STEP curriculum in the public school system in Ipswich, Mass., before moving to Danielson. Each two-hour session will include a time of teaching, discussion, and video. Classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m., beginning on Jan. 22. There is no cost to attend. Openings are available, call the Danielson Church of the Nazarene office at 860-774-5844 to register, or for more information.
