Community service awards

PLAINFIELD- William L. Mercier VFW Post 5446, Winsor Ave., Plainfield, will hold its annual Recognition Night Program, Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Post Home starting at 7 p.m. The snow date is Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The evening will start with a light buffet followed by the award presentations. This year's Community Awards recipients are: Moosup Volunteer Fireman-Roger Deloge, 47 years of service, currently serving at Captain of the Fire Police; Plainfield Volunteer Fireman-Ronald Couture, 50 years of service, currently serving as the District Treasurer American Legion Volunteer Ambulance Corp.; Nashley Blais, 9 years of service; Plainfield Police Chief Michael Surprenant, 16 years; Plainfield Police Captain Mario Arriaga, 11 years; Plainfield Highway Department employees Ronald Berube, 16 1/2 years; and Kenneth Henault, 16 1/2 years. These awards will be given out along with the Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Essay contest winners. Invited guests include First Selectman Paul Sweet, State VFW Commander John Hollis, State VFW Aux. President Virginia Livernoche, 4th District Commander David Greene, 4th District VFW Aux. President Margaret Brown, Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Dipietro, Plainfield High Principal James Worth, Plainfield Central School Principal Scott Gagnon and Vice Principal Stacey Kelleher.
