Car donated for book mobile

COLCHESTER- The Collaborative for Colchester’s Children (C3) is pleased to announce that partner, Backus Hospital, has generously donated a Subaru for use as the Bookmobile. The Bookmobile is, in essence, a vehicle that provides traveling library services to children in identified neighborhoods. The Bookmobile will be delivering books to elderly home-bound individuals, as well. The Colchester Bookmobile has been made possible through a partnership between Colchester Rotary Club, Cragin Memorial Library, and C3. As well, the Town of Colchester, another C3 partner, has agreed to take ownership of the Subaru, and insure and maintain it, as indicated by First Selectman, Gregg Schuster. The Rotary Club of Colchester took the lead on an early literacy initiative and provided initial funding for a traveling Bookmobile, Book It Kits, and a Reading Extravaganza library event, along with Cragin Memorial Library, to Colchester neighborhoods back in 2011. Realizing the importance of such a service, partner organizations worked together to bring the Bookmobile back, scheduled to begin in February, 2013. To become an active member of C3 or volunteer at one of the many activities, please contact Shelly Flynn, Early Childhood Coordinator at 860-537-0717 or sflyn330@colchesterct.org.
