MathCounts competition

COLCHESTER- Seven students representing William J. Johnston Middle School competed at the regional MATHCOUNTS competition held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London. In attendance were: seventh graders - Ryan Cicero, Christopher Gatesman, Audra Kingsley, and Gregory Leitkowski; sixth graders - Scott Fries, Mira Pianta, and Jonathan Trusz; and Math Club advisors Allison Leffingwell and Alicia Stofko. The competition included teams from 26 area schools and about 200 middle school students. The WJJMS team ranked 12 out of the 26 participating schools. Christopher Gatesman was among the top individual scorers in the regional competition, coming in 13th out of all participants, and has been invited to participate in the state MATHCOUNTS competition to be held at the University of Hartford on Saturday, March 9.
