Heating assistance available

REGION- Winter may be winding down but for area residents home heating costs continue to mount. The average cost to heat a home with oil in Connecticut is $2,078.00, a challenge to any budget. But relief may be available. The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program provides cash assistance toward a homes primary source of heat (oil, gas, electric, wood, pellets, propane, etc). Households with income falling below 60% of state median income ($31,815.00 for a household of one, 61,184.00 for a family of four) are encouraged to apply. The Thames Valley Council for Community Action has taken over 8,500 applications to date and will continue to take applications through April 30.
