Boating safety course

EAST HARTFORD - Goodwin College and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary are continuing to offer classes in About Boating Safely in March, April and May. These 8-hour beginner boating class can be used to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate, which anyone 16 or older must obtain to legally operate any size boat with a motor in Connecticut waters. The one-day classes will take place on Saturdays at Goodwin College, Room 311, Main Building, 1 Riverside Drive, East Hartford. Classes will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 23, April 27 and May 25. Course textbooks will be provided. Students should bring a lunch, pencil and pen. Those who successfully finish will receive a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certificate of Completion. Topics include: Introduction to Boating; Boating Law; Boat Safety Equipment; Safe Boating; Navigation Boating Problems; Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat; navigating rivers and other boating tips. The cost is $75 for individuals; $65 for each additional family member taking the class at the same time; and $45 for students and faculty of Goodwin College with identification.
