Spring canoe race

ENFIELD- With a wild snowy winter hopefully behind us and the weather and water warming up, the Scantic River Watershed Association announced the 22th Annual Scantic Spring Splash Canoe and Kayak Race will take place on Saturday, March 30. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Powder Mill Barn, South Maple Street, Enfield. Registration is $20 per participant paddler; $18 per participant paddler that brings a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Enfield Food Shelf. The theme this year is "Be A Fan: Donate An Extra Can or Two." The start for all racers is at Quality Ave. in Somers. The five novice classes start first, promptly at 11:30 a.m. The 13 racing classes follow with a noon start. Before, during and after the race, hot and cold food and snacks will be available. Free shuttle bus will be provided for spectators.
