WILLIMANTIC- The Windham Theatre Guild welcomes in Spring with an award-winning comedy, "Educating Rita" by Willy Russell, opening Friday, April 5 at the Burton Leavitt Theater. The play has two characters: Rita, a spirited young hairdresser from Liverpool who yearns desperately for an education and Frank, a cynical career academic whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and bury himself in his books. After weeks of cajoling, Rita slowly wins over the very hesitant Frank with her innate insight and refusal to accept no for an answer. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms, ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. Some strong language is used in the production. Show dates are April 5, 6, 12 and 13, at 8 p.m., April 7 and 14, at 2 p.m. and April 11, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for students/seniors (60+), $10 for children under 12 and $12 for UConn/ECSU/QVCC students (with ID). Contact the WTG at 423-2245 or for reservations and tickets. Tickets are also available at the door. There are no refunds.
