EAST HARTFORD - The annual spring Connecticut Gravestone Network Symposium 2013 will be held on April 6 at the South Senior Center, 70 Canterbury Street, East Hartford. The day is devoted to sharing and learning about our history and all that encompasses caring and protecting our historic burying places. Every genealogist visits a cemetery or two at some point in their research. Our group is involved in every aspect of appreciating these historic resources, from carving stone to finding lost cemeteries. There will be displays, exhibits and lectures all day. Admission at the door is $10. Doors open at 9 a.m. Lectures to be presented include: “Old Cemeteries 101 for First Timers & Genealogist;” “The Mysteries of the Peet Cemetery in New Milford;” “Cemetery Resources at the State Library;” “Silas Brainerd; Stone Carver of East Haddam;” and "Halloween Business Events: The Social Side of Scaring."
