Take a walking tour

COLCHESTER- The Colchester Land Trust and Colchester Historical Society will cosponsor a walking tour of the Colchester Burying Ground (1713) and Linwood Cemetery (1847) on Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m. as part of the "Discover Colchester" hike series. The hike leader will point out the graves and tell the stories of a number of people important to Colchester’s history. In addition, the leader will talk about some of the known early stone carvers, and how the materials and artistic styles used by carvers changed over the 18th and 19th centuries. This will be an easy walk with a total length of less than 2 miles. The site to site walking will all be on sidewalks and will only cross Linwood Ave. at Main Street with the assistance of the traffic light there. The walk is expected to take less than 2 hours to complete. Children are welcome, but, please no dogs on this hike. The walk will begin and end at the Colchester Historical Society’s Museum at 24 Linwood Ave., which, shares a parking lot with Cragin Memorial Library. Please note that the CHS Museum, which is normally only open on Saturday afternoons, will be open for up to 1 hour after the walk for anyone who would like to view its exhibits.
