Nature walk

VERNON- The Vernon Hockanum River Linear Park Committee will sponsor a nature walk on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m. The walk will begin at 100 Windsorville Road (Rte 74) at the new Vernon Marsh Observation Area, located at the Water Pollution Control facility. The walk will extend along the river and marsh, south to the Dart Hill Road North parking area, and return. The distance is 1.4 miles one way, or 2.8 miles round trip. Cars will be available at Dart Hill Road for a return trip back to Windsorville Rd for those that want to do one direction. The new Vernon Marsh river park site has an observation area overlooking the marsh, interpretive signs, a canoe/kayak launch, a refurbished trailhead, and a small parking area. The work was funded by a Recreational Trails grant, administered through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Come see this new river park, and joins us for an Earth Day walk along the river. It's spring, and the marsh is buzzing with new life! DEEP Wildlife Technician Jane Seymour will provide commentary about wildlife observations along the way. Committee member George Arthur will lead the walk, assisted by Joe King.
