Animals on the Farm Day

VERNON - "Animals on the Farm" Day at the Strong Family Farm, 274 West Road, will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rain date is May 18. There will be many activities for children, a costumed chicken roaming about, farm tours, yarn spinning demonstration, baby animals of all kinds and more. Doughnuts, coffee and other food will be for sale. Barn drawings by Vernon Center Road third-graders will be on display around the barn. Our Companions, a local animal adoption agency will have information for dogs, cats and other animals available for adoption. They will be taking donations of cat food. Also, information will be is sponsoring an Adopt-A-Chicken program whereby children and others can purchase a baby chick that will live at the farm. Weekly programs and visits will be provided to those adopt a baby chick. Parking available on Peterson Rd., Vernon Center Road School and Vernon Center Middle School. The Strong Family Farm, which is celebrating its 135th anniversary this year, is currently being transformed from an active farm to a non-profit agricultural education center. Many volunteers and supporters are involved in this transformation effort and are seeking to protect and preserve the homestead, iconic yellow barns and farmlands. Admission and children's activities are free of charge. Donations are welcome.
