Picnic to honor hometown hero

Suffield - posted Apr, 23 2013

SUFFIELD - There will be a gathering to honor, remember and celebrate the life of Steve Bixler at the Annual Corporal Stephen R. Bixler Memorial Picnic. Many from the community attend the picnic on Memorial Day weekend, mingling and sharing their memories of Bixler. Not only former classmates but also older adults and young children all enjoy the music, food, fellowship and a wonderful day outdoors. Some play football, whiffle ball, horseshoes, while others sit around talking and reminiscing. However, on this and every Sunday of Memorial Day weekend people come together to honor, remember and celebrate Bixler’s life. Please join in for an afternoon of good food, great company and fantastic music. All proceeds from the picnic are raised for the Cpl. Bixler’s Memorial Fund. Bixler’s memory will always live on through the many community projects that are helped by means of his Memorial Fund now and in the future. The picnic is held on Sunday, May 26 from noon – 5 p.m. at the Suffield Sportsmen’s Club, Phelps Road, West Suffield. Tickets are $15 and will be available at all offices of The First National Bank of Suffield, Suffield Hardware, Suffield Pizza or by calling Anne at 860-324-8206.
