STERLING- The Sterling Public Library is sponsoring a free Farm-to-Table tour of three Sterling farms, on Saturday, May 18. Meet at the Sterling library at 9:30 a.m. . The tour will be taken on a school bus. The tour will head off to Megan Johnson’s Buttercup Farm, located on 260 Main Street. Megan will give us a tour of her barn and pasture. We’ll be able to meet and greet 4 of her milking cows. (The 5th cow will be off visiting a local health food store.) She’ll show us how she milks, and how she processes and bottles the milk. We’ll see her store where she sells her fresh milk and local eggs and honey. The second stop on the tour is at Betsy’s stand and Molodich farms up on Ekonk Hill. She’ll give us a hay ride around the farm, and through a barn. We’ll see some of their fields, bee hives and some animals. In her store she sells her plants and later her fruits and vegetables. She also has their all-natural beef, local eggs, honey, maple syrup, jellies and jams. Next, you will head down the street to the Ekonk Grange. At the Grange, we will be provided with a free lunch of sandwiches, chips, drinks and desserts. There are bathrooms that will be available, as well. We’ll wrap up our farm tour at Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm. Rick and Elena ermont and their family raise turkeys and some chickens, capons, and geese. We will also be able to see their sheep and donkey. They make their own ice cream and assorted bakery items. In their store they sell their turkey pies, baked goods, ice cream and also sell local all natural foods. Sign up is necessary. We need a count for the Grange, as to which sandwich you’d like. PB&J, turkey or ham are the choices, on wheat or white. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Stop in at the library or call 860-564-2692.
