Strength training for seniors

THOMPSON- Thompson – Thompson Recreation is offering a new session of Strength Training Exercise Program for Seniors. In this class you will work to strengthen your muscles and bones, increase your muscle mass, reduce bone loss, increase slowing metabolism and help prevent falling. The strength exercises can be done using just your body weight or you can add resistance dumbbell weights. Many of these strengthening exercises for seniors can be performed in a chair or while holding onto a chair. This also helps increase your balance and stability. If you have 1-2 lb weights, you may bring them with you. This class is open to those 60 years of age or older. The instructor is Terri Viani. Classes are held in Thompson on Tuesdays from 9-10 a.m. for eight weeks from May 28 through July 16. Register and pay by May 21 for the price of $12 for the entire 8 weeks. Registration received May 22 or later will be $17 for the 8 weeks. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
