EAST HARTFORD - The Town of East Hartford has proposed a project for the reconstruction of Brewer Street from Main St. (State Route 517) to Glenn Road. The project is currently in the concept stage and may be recommended for construction under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. This project, if supported by the community and the Town Council, will be designed by a consulting engineer that will be retained by the Town. It is town and state policy to keep the public informed and involved when this type of project is undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the development of the project. An informational meeting on the project will be held by the Town on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Welling Conference Room, 2nd floor of town hall, 740 Main St., East Hartford. The project includes full-depth reconstruction of Brewer Street, including a new drainage system, new roadway base, new pavement, and granite curb. The existing sidewalk on the south side of the Brewer St. will be replaced and a 200-foot section of sidewalk will be installed on the north side Brewer St. extending east from Main St. The project will replace the existing culvert for Pewterpot Brook, which was originally constructed in the 1940s, and the traffic signal at Glenn Road. Sidewalks ramps will be installed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
