Memorial Day celebration

HAMPTON- - All are welcome at Hampton's old-fashioned Memorial Day celebration, events up and down Main Street on Monday, May 27. Everyone's favorite is the tractor parade, up to 60 new and antique vehicles. Events start with a pancake breakfast at the Congregational Church. Holt Hall, 7-9 a.m. Cost is $6 for adults, and $3 for children. and conclude with "Keep the Home Fires Burning," a free performance by Tom Callinan, of patriotic and original songs on historical themes, 7-8 p.m. at the Community Center. Bring a chair for parade viewing and chicken-eating and concert-going. Evening performance is weatherproof, indoors, and includes chairs!! The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Main St. (Participants will gather at the Congregational Church). The Memorial Day Ceremony is at 10 a.m. at Town Hall. The Naval Ceremony is at noon at the Little River Bridge on Hammond Hill Road. The Historical Society Open House is at noon at the Burnham Hibbard Museum. A chicken barbecue will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Center. Cost is $9.50 adults, (also children's meal, $4 and vegetarian meal $8.50) A free concert, Otis Read and the Lucky Band, will start at 12:30 p.m. on the Community Center Lawn the day's actvitities end with the "Keep the Home Fires Burning" free performance by Tom Callinan, 7 - 8 p.m., at the Community Center Fore more information, call 860-455-9875.
