VERNON - The Vernon Junior Women’s Club and the Vernon Police Department are sponsoring Safety Town for children entering kindergarten this fall. Safety Town is a one-week class where pre-kindergarten children receive safety instruction in preparation for elementary school. The program, conducted by the VJWC, runs for two weeks during the summer and touches on the following areas: traffic safety, fire safety, bus safety, bicycle safety, an awareness of the dangers of poisons and medicines, and awareness of strangers. This year, Safety Town will be conducted at Lake Street School in Vernon. The sessions will be held July 8 through 12, and July 15 through 19. The morning session is 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; the afternoon session is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration costs $20 per child.
