Youth fishing derby

Connecticut Water and the Shenipsit Lake Association announce that a youth fishing derby will be held at the Shenipsit Lake Reservoir in the towns of Ellington, Tolland and Vernon from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 26. The fishing derby is for kids up to 15 years old and is free. Registration for the derby is at the boat storage area on Ellington Road in Ellington, and fishing for the kid’s derby is from designated shore areas only. In the state of Connecticut, children under the age of 16 are not required to have fishing licenses. All children should bring their own fishing equipment. Additional details on the youth fishing derby is available at SLA’s Web site: In addition, Connecticut Water will host a guided hike on a portion of the hiking trail on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. beginning at the trail entrance at on Route 74 in Tolland across from RockVern Electric.
