Fun at the library

MARLBOROUGH- Registration for summer programs has started at Richmond Memorial Library and there is still time to get in on the fun. Programs for all ages are offered. This year’s theme for children is “Dig into Reading”, Groundbreaking Reads is for teens, while adults are encouraged to “Drive Off with a Good Book”. This year the library is using an online program for all ages to read and track their books. Simple to use, each reader registers at the Richmond Library website, www.richmondlibrary.info and chooses “Register” then “Sign Me Up” and follows the easy instructions. After each book read, all readers log in and report their progress to be eligible for weekly prizes. For those who need help staff at the circulation is always ready to assist. The Library has lots of other fun programs planned as well including: July 9 at 10:30 a.m.: Touch-a-Truck. All ages are welcome to get up close with the BIG trucks of Marlborough, no registration necessary. All ages welcome. July 10 at 6:30p.m.: Doodle Art. We'll supply the paper and pens for various methods of this fascinating, easy to do art. You bring the creativity. For ages 10 and older, adults too. Registration necessary. July 18 at 10 a.m.: Digging for Dinos! Logan Tyler helps us excavate for for our own dinosaur fossils and make casts of them to take home. For ages 7-11, registration necessary. July 19 from 7-10 p.m.: Teens Take Over the Library Night - Glow bowling, snacks, t-shirt design (Bring a plain, colored t-shirt, not white). Just for teens. July 25, 3 p.m.: - Wiggle Worms with Jean Scialabba for ages 3-12, registrations required. Jean will bring hundreds of her worm friends and explain their importance to us. Sponsored by Marlborough PTO July 25 at 6 p.m.: Wormologist Jean Scialabba shares her technique of indoor composting and how to reuse our kitchen waste so that it is turned into "gardener's gold. For teens and adults, registration required. Sponsored by Marlborough PTO July 31 at 11 a.m.: Rockin' Rocks with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, 11 am for ages 7 & up. Learn about CT rocks, minerals and fossils and then pan for gold. Bring your lunch and picnic with us too. No registration necessary. Sponsored by Marlborough PTO Aug. 1, 3 p.m.: We Will Rock You! We're making rock candy and creating artwork out of rocks. For teens, registration required. Aug. 20: RML Friends Ice Cream Social, 6 p.m. Area teens will want to watch RML’s teen blog for more details on their summer reading program – www.teensatrml.blogspot.com and learn how to earn enter our prize raffle. Adults can enter our weekly prize drawing through their participation by logging into their online summer reading account.
