Make your own journal

Suffield - posted Jul, 01 2013

SUFFIELD - On Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m. to noon, come to Kent Memorial Library to learn how to create handmade books to hold your ideas and images. By the end of the workshop, participants will have created two books: a small chapbook with a paper cover and a larger Italian leather long stitch journal. Participants are welcome to bring objects to embellish the cover or even bring your own writing to bind into the books during this workshop.  Chapbooks date back to the 16th century when traveling salesmen would carry ephemera containing ballads, songs and moral stories to the masses. You are also welcome to bring special paper for your books, any type of clasps or buttons to use to close your leather journals, or additions that you may want to add to the cover or inside of your books. Limited to 16 adults. This free program is sponsored by The Friends of Kent Memorial Library. Please call the library at 860-668-3896 to reserve a seat.
