Formation of Booster Club

Colchester - posted Jul, 10 2013

COLCHESTER- A meeting will be held on July 17 from 6-7 p.m. at Colchester Town Hall to discuss the formation of a non-profit booster club to support art, music, and theater at Bacon Academy. All parents, Colchester Public Schools staff, community members, and other interested people are invited to attend this meeting. The topics for this initial meeting will include creating a name for the non-profit booster club, organizing the groundwork for the project, opportunities for fundraising, creating a pool of human resources and talent, and gathering support for this project. There are many different groups to support student activities at Bacon Academy, however, there is presently no organization in place for parents and interested community members to help support the art, music, and theater departments and programs. While the primary focus of this group will be art, music and theater, the definition of what is art will also be discussed. The language arts, technical arts, and dance are areas of study that intersect with the modern definition of Art. They may fall under the category of art, or we may discover a need for another group. As a much used space by the schools and community, the Gross Auditorium at Bacon Academy is a location that could be improved by more formalized community support. There is a need of financial and time resources for the maintenance and replacement of performance equipment (such as lighting and sound equipment, stage floor care like re-painting, theater curtains), more formalized training for the community in equipment use and request procedures, and a better understanding of the space's use by the entire Colchester community.
