STERLING- On Saturday, Aug. 10, the 31st annual Community Grange Fair will be held on the grounds and in the hall of Ekonk Community Grange. The handicapped assessable hall is located at 723 Ekonk Hill Road (also known as scenic Rt. 49). The Fair will open at 9 a.m. A bicycle rodeo for children will begin at 9:30 a.m. Parents must bring both bikes and helmets for their child to participate. Following the State Police run rodeo, drawings will be held and a lucky girl and boy will win a free, new bicycle if their name is drawn! All day long, representatives from the Civil War Battery B Militia Unit of the Northwest Topographical Engineers will hold an Encampment on the grounds as well as have two full table displays inside the hall itself. Throughout the day, children can enjoy a free Moon Bounce, nail-driving contests, a Duct Tape station and a corn box for the little kids. At 1 p.m., "Dave the Animal Man" will fascinate kids with "hands on" frogs, lizards, turtles, snakes, amphibians, an alligator; chinchilla, rabbits, and more. Anyone wishing to bring anything to exhibit for competition must bring it to the Grange on Friday, Aug. 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. Food will be available in the Grange kitchen during the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. fair. A peach shortcake supper will begin at 5:00 p.m. that same day. Roast pork, potatoes, vegetables, rolls & butter, beverages and fresh peaches, over home made buns and topped with gobs of real whipped cream will complete the all you can eat meal! Adults $12; children 12 and under, $6 and preschoolers will be admitted free. Questions on any event call Fair President, Link Cooper at 860-564-1821.
