TOLLAND - Come see the Old Tolland County Jail & Museum's collection of artifacts from throughout Tolland’s history and experience what life would have been like for Tolland’s previous residents. An assortment of hats from the 1800s thru the early 1900s is among the displays. Student interns are always available and eager to give guided tours. The Old Tolland County Jail and Museum is located on Tolland Green and is open every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. (excluding Labor Day weekend) until Oct. 6 when the annual closing day event is held. They offer special events to delight the family on Sundays during the summer including butter churning, ice cream making, children’s games, weaving demonstrations, oxen rides, story tellers and speakers on topics of the period. Visit www.tollandhistorical.org for a schedule. Demonstration and lessons are ongoing weekly in the shed. There are opportunities to help on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday mornings at the museum. Please contact museum director Kathy Bach at 860-872-7716 to volunteer or to donate treasures.
