Sales tax-free week
Region - posted Aug, 09 2013
REGION- Sales Tax Free Week” runs from Sunday, Aug. 18 through Saturday, Aug. 24. Those who have done their back-to-school shopping during this week in the past know that it is a great opportunity to save some money. The seven-day holiday exempts clothing and footwear priced under $300 from the state sales tax. For example, you could buy one pair of shoes at $100 or six pairs of shoes at $100 each; all are tax free. Sales Tax Free Week is also the perfect time for shoppers to make some of those higher-priced purchases, like much-needed winter coats, boots or pricy holiday clothing. Hats, scarves, belts, some uniforms and cloth and disposable diapers won’t be taxed either. The summer holiday from the state sales tax helps shoppers maximize their household budgets, helps retailers with increased sales, and gives Connecticut's economy a boost. Remember that the sales tax is applied to merchandise after the use of any coupons or discounts. Any coupons or discounts that bring the final price of an item under $300 benefit from the exemption. So start clipping now! There are restrictions to the holiday. Special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use, accessories, and jewelry do not qualify.
