STERLING- On Saturday, Sept. 14, families are invited to come to Sterling for the annual fun, Family Day! Opening ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Admission and parking are free. This year, in addition to the Moon Bounce, kids can thrill to a mobile high flying zip adventure; a joust inflatable, a double slide and little kids can play in the corn box, take part in the pedal tractor competition and the fishing derby! Children must bring their own fishing pole and be accompanied by an adult to participate. The annual Rubber Duck Derby race will be held at 1 p.m. and the ducks will race down the waters of Moosup Pond. Tickets are still available at $5. Cash prizes of $100 first; $75 second and $50 3rd will be awarded and the last duck across the finish line will receive the "lazy duck" award of a fill up of a propane tank. Persons do not have to be present to win. Paul Salisbury will be the DJ for the day and Don Buell and his band will entertain with music. From noon until 5 p.m., parents can take advantage of a free "Amber Alert" program. A great variety of food vendors will be present. Face painting will be available throughout the day and will be free. The evening will end with a spectacular fireworks display, beginning around 8:30 p.m. All activities will be held in and around the Sterling Recreational Field on Rt. 14 in Sterling Center. This is also the location of the Sterling Walking Track/Ball Field.
