Take a walk

REGION- For the past 23 years, The Last Green Valley (TLGV) has been offering a program each October featuring free walks, hikes, and tours throughout the 35 town bi-state National Heritage Corridor. What started as a single weekend has now grown into a month-long experience! This year promises to be bigger and better than ever thanks to the dedication of over 100 volunteer leaders. TLGV’s 2013 Walktober will feature 106 free walks, hikes, paddles and bike rides as well as 36 events that highlight the special cultural, historic or natural resources of The Last Green Valley. Each walk is labeled easy, moderate, or difficult and many offerings are geared specifically for families with children. The family dog is welcome at pet-friendly walks. Adventurers will be satisfied with thirteen paddles and three bike rides included in this year’s schedule. Events include the Connecticut Renaissance Faire, held for the first time in Norwich, and the 5th Annual Brimfield Antique Auto Show in Brimfield, MA. There is something for everyone to enjoy from farm tours, to ghost hunts, to architectural strolls. The full-color, 32-page Walktober brochure is free. You can obtain one by emailing mail@tlgv.org or calling 860-774-3300 and requesting a copy. The brochure is also available at all TLGV Information Racks and a PDF version is available for download online at www.tlgv.org. All updates, additions and cancellations will be posted on the Walktober 2013 page on TLGV’s website and Facebook page so please check it often. New this year, The Last Green Valley is selling a limited edition Walktober t-shirt. The TLGV logo graces the front left side of a creamy off-white 100 percent cotton t-shirt. The price is $20 and includes shipping and handling. The proceeds from the sale of the shirt will benefit The Last Green Valley’s Walktober program and it can be purchased by visiting the on-line shop at www.tlgv.org or calling 860-774-3300.
