SOMERS - Entering its 14th year, the Somers Great Escape Road Race has partnered with the Southern New England Athletic Association (SNEAA), an organization dedicated to promoting local athletic events to unite and benefit communities. The SNEAA created the weekly Somers Summer Series 5K race on Wednesday nights on the Somers cross country course to help participants prepare for the annual 5K/ 5 mile event. The Somers Great Escape Road Race culminates the Somers Summer Series and kicks off the Four Town Fair weekend. The Somers Great Escape Road Race starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 Vision Blvd in Somers. Registration opens at 7 a.m., and all participants receive the iconic “convict” tee-shirt and can redeem their race bib for a beverage at the Rotary pavilion inside the Four Town Fair. Cash prizes are available to first, second and third place male and female runners, as well as age division winners. The entry fee is $20 for pre-registrants; $25 day of registrants. All proceeds benefit the Somers Rotary Scholarship Foundation. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available.
