Hazardouse waste collection

Vernon - posted Sep, 04 2013

VERNON - Vernon residents may dispose of hazardous waste at the Olcott Street facility in Manchester. The remaining collection dates for 2013 are Sept. 21 and Oct. 19. In addition, there will be a hazardous waste collection at Somers High School located at 3 Vision Blvd. on Oct. 5. All collections are held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The drop-off is free to town residents but the town is billed $42 per participating vehicle, therefore, it is requested that residents bring as many hazardous materials as possible to the collection site, possibly car-pooling with neighbors. The following items will not be accepted: asbestos, smoke detectors, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fireworks, explosives and fire extinguishers. Motor oil and antifreeze may be disposed of at the transfer station at no charge to Vernon residents.
