EAST HAMPTON- The Chatham Historical Society is organizing a tour of the old Boy Scout Island (West Island) and the nearby Sunset View Guest House on Lake Pocotopaug on Old Marlborough Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The tour is sponsored by the East Hampton Parks & Recreation Dept. and is part of the “Explore East Hampton” monthly series program.        There will be two tours: 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Pontoon boats will take the first group of adults to the island, so come early to sign up. Jack Solomon will lead the tour and tell the island’s history. That group will then return to the mainland and have a guided tour of the Sunset View Guest House which is next door to the Solomon’s home. Jill Jensen, the present owner, will give a tour of her grandmother’s “Sunset View” cottage and farmhouse. Her grandmother had a farm and when summer came her family lived in tents. She rented the cottage and rooms in her farmhouse  to tourists. Jill will show photos and share some of her family’s tales. The tours will begin at Jack & Jan Solomon’s home at 11 Old Marlborough Road. There is parking in their yard.   For further information about upcoming walks or the Chatham Historical Society, contact Marty Podskoch, coordinator of the “Explore East Hampton” walks at 860-267-2442, podskoch@comcast.net, or visit http://www.easthamptonrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=27025  or http://www.chathamhistoricalsocietyct.org/
