Art classes available

VERNON - The Vernon Community Arts Center (VCAC), 709 Hartford Tnpk. (Route 30), Vernon, will be holding the following art classes. All classes will be held at the Arts Center. For more information, please call VCAC at 860-871-8222. Register early as class sizes are limited. Pastel Painting: beginning, intermediate and advanced students welcome. For high school-age through adults. - Explore the joys of pastels; ncrease your understanding of contour, value, composition, shape and color while creating a pastel landscape or still-life painting. Bring an 8x10 or 9x12 sketchpad and pencil to the first class, as well as pastels and pastel paper. Additional supplies will be discussed at that time. Instructor is Nancy Cooke Bunnell. Dates are Thursday, Oct. 17 through Thursday, Nov. 21; 6 weeks. Time: 2 to 4 p.m. Fee is $125. Please register early as class size is limited to 12. Oil Painting: Follow your Inspiration – Have you always wanted to try oil painting? Or, have you been away from it for a while and been meaning to start again? If so, this class is for you. The fundamentals of painting and compositional drawing will be taught in an environment where everyone feels free to develop new skills, enjoy the creative process, and follow their inspiration. After several practice drawing exercises, students will mix colors on a palette and create oil paintings on canvas. Please bring in at least one personal/inspiring photograph, 8”x10”is best, or you may set up a still life arrangement using personal objects from home. Instructor is Debra Gag. Dates are Tuesday, Oct. 22 through Tuesday, Nov. 26, six classes. Time: 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Fee: $125 plus $40 for materials. Register early as class size is limited.
