Art classes for children and teens

VERNON - The Vernon Community Arts Center (VCAC), 709 Hartford Tnpk. (Route 30), Vernon, will be holding the following fall art classes for children and teens. All classes will be held at the Arts Center. For more information, please call VCAC at 860-871-8222. Register early as class sizes are limited. Strengthening Art Skills Session 2: Students will develop skills in drawing, pastel painting and basic print making using a variety of media including pencils, charcoal, pastels and acrylic. Emphasis will be on improving student ability to depict the world around them through a better understanding of contour, gesture, value, composition, shape, texture, principals of design and color. For ages 10 through 15. Instructor is Nancy Cooke Bunnell. Dates for the class (six classes) are Thursdays, Nov. 7 through Dec. 19, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Cost is $95 plus $12 for materials. The Joy of Painting: In this painting class, young artists will make colorful artworks inspired by famous artists from Van Gogh (Impressionism) to Vasarely (Op-Art). This is a great class for those who love color as we apply acrylic and watercolor paint using bold brushstrokes. The exciting and dynamic results will be suitable for framing. Instructor is Debra Gag. For ages 7 to 12. Dates for the class are (six classes) Mondays, Oct. 21 through Nov. 25, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Cost is $100 plus $25 for materials. The Joy of Painting for Teens: In this painting class, students will explore various styles from traditional landscape painting to Pop Art. This is a great class for those who love color and want to experiment with acrylics, watercolors, and pastels. The vibrant results will be suitable for framing. Instructor is Debra Gag. For ages 13 through 18. Dates for the class (six classes) are Mondays, Oct. 21 through Nov. 25, from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $100 plus $25 for materials. Drawing for Teens and Almost Teens: This drawing class will focus on observational techniques as students draw things from their everyday life. They will learn how to make objects look solid and have the correct proportions; how to create light and shadow; and how to best compose their drawings. Watercolor washes or pastels will add the finishing touches to artwork that is suitable for framing. Instructor is Debra Gag. For ages 11 to 17. Dates for the class (five classes) are Wednesdays, Oct. 23 through Nov. 20, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Cost is $95 plus $15 for materials.
